Our Story
Durham Musical Youth Theatre was founded in 2024, but was 22 years in the making. Founder Kate Sorahan has worked with young people producing high standard musical theatre production's for decades.
The DMYT team is truly exceptional., Amanda Woods, Choreographer and Mark Thompson, Musical Director work alongside Kate Sorahan, Director to bring the best out of young performers.
With our passionate team and a talented community of young people, we’re confident that we give our members the best experience.
Durham Musical Youth Theatre provides a weekly session for young people ages 5-21 years. We create an environment to nurture, educate and encourage creative individuals to achieve the highest level of success.

Exciting announcement
DMYT in collaboration with Astravaganza Entertainment will be
producing our first full size musical in May 2025.
We Will Rock You will be staged at Park View Theatre, Chester le Street between 2nd - 4th May.

DMYT Groups
Foundation
School Years 1 - 3
Wednesdays 5.45pm - 7.15pm
Our Foundation group is our youngest members. They will get weekly classes in dance, drama and singing for the first half term of Autumn. We will then start working towards our full musical production with weekly rehearsals taking place during their session time.
Juniors
School Years 4-7
Wednesdays 5.45pm - 7.45pm
Our Junior group are our middle group of members. Each week they will develop their skills in dance, drama and singing, allowing them to start to explore the art of Musical Theatre as a performance style. After the first half of Autumn Term, the group will start rehearsals for their full musical production.
Seniors
School Year 8+
Wednesdays 6.30pm - 9pm
Our oldest group; the Seniors will learn skills in Musical Theatre which allows them to bring to the stage a fully developed and mature performance. The first half of Autumn term will focus on technique and team building, after half term we will audition and start working towards their full scale musical in the Spring.

Focusing on technique and movement pick up, these fast paced dance classes are a great edition to the senior MT sessions.
